I downloaded this issue of this amazing pulp for the story 'The Alien Machine' by Raymond F. Jones. It is the original story that the 1955 movie 'This Island Earth' was faithfully based on. That was a classic science fiction movie that was a cut above the typical 'sci-fi' movies of that era. It had only one monster scene, bowing to the taste of the typical movie-goer. The rest of it was a future-science-based fantasy that would appeal to those of a truly scientific bent. It starts off with a 'hot-shot' plane pilot, and highly competent electronics engineer, receiving a strange catalog that featured fantastic components that were truly beyond anything on earth. He orders the components to build a device he never heard of, and for which there were no instructions. He succeeds and ends up being transported to a top-secret facility, ala 'Atlas Shrugged', where he meets the world's top scientists, engineers, and artists, all hosted by intellectually advanced alien human-like beings, who take him to their dying planet and ask his help in saving it. Highly recommended.
